Understanding the Different Engine Types

Here at Fresno Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM, we have a vast selection of new vehicles to choose from. The car shopping process is in-depth, as you need to select the correct configuration for your specific needs. This ranges from the most optimal body style down to the engine type. Do you know the different powertrain options and what sets them apart?

When picking out a new Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge or RAM  vehicle, one of the main things you should look out for is the type of engine. The three basic options include V8, V6, and four-cylinder.

A V8 is almost always going to be more powerful than a four-cylinder engine. A V6 or V8 accelerates fast and gives the driver more power overall, which is why they’re mostly found in larger vehicles such as SUVs and trucks; for example, the Jeep Wrangler and RAM 1500. Thanks to the added strength, towing and hauling is increased compared to a four-cylinder.

Drivers who are looking for a fuel-efficient ride will be most satisfied with a four-cylinder engine. Although they don’t render quite as high ratings as a V6 or V8, their efficiency is optimal. Sedans and small crossovers or SUVs feature four-cylinder options.

Of course, there is always an exception. The Dodge Challenger, for example, offers both four-cylinder and V8 engine options, same as the Dodge Journey.

Comparing the different engine types can be somewhat of a challenge. At the end of the day, it all comes down the personal preference. Fortunately, the skilled sales team at our Dodge dealership serving Madera, CA can help you find the engine type that best suits you, and as a result, put you behind the wheel of a vehicle that you’ll truly love.
